Curriculum Overview

At Horizon Academy, our goal is for each student to experience a high degree of success, both socially and academically. Our small class size allows for differentiated instruction in a group setting, honoring each student’s individual strengths while providing support and remediation in their areas of challenge.

Based on multiple assessments (both formal and informal), our teachers create an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for each student. At Horizon Academy, a student’s IEP incorporates all aspects of the whole child. This includes: cognitive abilities, language skills, attention, memory, organization, social functioning and other areas that affect learning. Armed with this understanding of each child’s profile, our teachers are then able to create the optimal environment for each student’s individual needs and the classroom as a whole.

Additionally, Horizon Academy’s approach to education is based on the balance of four areas: academics, self-advocacy, executive functioning, and social skills. We work towards empowering our students with the tools they need for success.
