Letter from our Head of School
Welcome to Horizon Academy!
It is with great pride and excitement that I welcome you to Horizon Academy as we enter our 18th year as Kansas City’s premier independent school serving students in grades 1-12 with diagnosed dyslexia and other Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD). During the past 18 years, Horizon Academy has been a leader in utilizing research-based educational best practices and learning strategies for our students struggling with dyslexia, other specific learning disabilities and/or ADHD. Our carefully constructed small classes are led by diagnostic and prescriptive educators who are relationship driven and understand that not every child learns in the same way. A multi-sensory approach to teaching and learning is the norm as we recognize each student’s learning style and celebrate each student’s strengths and challenges.
I am so honored to lead Horizon Academy, to work with excellent, passionate teachers and staff, and to meet the needs of each and every one of our unique students. Each day, I look forward to partnering with dedicated parents and our experienced and knowledgeable leaders on the Board of Trustees in making Horizon Academy the premier school and resource center for students with dyslexia and other Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) and their families in the Kansas City area. As the Head of School, I invite you to become part of our outstanding organization whose mission remains: “To provide a caring and respectful environment for students struggling with learning disabilities where they are given the opportunity to achieve their highest potential, become lifelong learners and develop into productive, responsible citizens of their community.”
Whether you are a parent, educator, or community member interested in learning more about our program, I thank you for visiting our website. I invite you take a tour of our facility and see us in action.
Ms. Vicki Asher
