The Learning Center

At Horizon Academy, we offer programs and services to benefit children and families in the Kansas City area and beyond. 1 in 5 students has a language-based learning disability, and we recognize not all of these students will attend Horizon Academy. With that in mind, we have tutoring and testing services to serve students and continue our mission of teaching students with language-based learning disabilities to become effective learners.

Tutoring

Does your child need extra support? Tutoring through Horizon Academy’s Learning Center offers students the extra help they need at our main campus, at a location in southern Johnson County, and online. Sessions are offered during the school day as well as during after-school hours. We have both school year and summer tutoring programs available that offer Orton-Gillingham-based tutoring, Multisensory Math tutoring, and Executive Functioning tutoring.

Testing Services

Horizon Academy provides on-site educational consultation and in-person evaluation services. We work with children, teens, and young adults to evaluate learning challenges and provide specific recommendations to improve academic success.

Educational Consultation

There are a variety of reasons why parents may seek this kind of consultation service. Parents who are looking for changes to their student’s educational plan but are not ready to request mediation or invoke due process procedures often choose our educational consultation service as a middle-of-the-road solution. Other parents simply notice issues in their student’s day-to-day world that they would like to resolve.

Executive Function (EF) Coaching

Students enrolled in EF Coaching will learn more about their own academic motivation, how to focus their attention, solve problems, control their impulses, and pursue realistic goals. Whether your student needs a little structure or a complete EF reboot, this supportive and proven coaching model can make a lasting difference.
