Transitioning to a Dyslexia School

Transitioning to Horizon Academy

Starting at a Specialized School

At Horizon Academy, we understand that transitioning to a dyslexia school is different for every student. That’s why we’ve put together this guide, which covers the entire transition process and how our team can help your student adjust to their new learning environment.

The Process

How the Transition Works

Formal Diagnosis

01

In order to qualify to attend Horizon Academy, your child needs a primary dyslexia, dysgraphia, and/or dyscalculia diagnosis. We have limited capacity to provide the highly personalized, intensive, one-to-one support that some students with Autism Spectrum Disorder—or emotional and behavioral disorders—require.

Application

02

Once you submit an inquiry, our team reaches out for a discussion about your child’s education. This includes an overview of previous interventions, diagnoses, and past academic performance across all subjects.

Establishing Needs

03

In addition to a tour of our facility, we screen every child who applies to our school. This allows us to discover the challenges your child faces and which of their strengths may benefit them in the classroom as they start transitioning to a dyslexia school.

Starting School

04

From day one, we make sure your child knows that dyslexia is their superpower. By fostering a culture of inclusivity and diversity, we encourage socialization between students. It’s our goal to help every student feel capable, confident, and exceptional.

Support Systems at Horizon Academy

Whole-Child Focus

Social and emotional support are just as important as our actual teaching approaches. When your child starts school, establishing an encouraging environment is essential to success.

Highly Qualified Faculty

Professional development ensures that Horizon Academy faculty employ evidence-based approaches to meet the needs of our student body.

Community Engagement

Horizon Academy is a resource for families and schools whose students are impacted by learning disabilities. We host parent education, teacher training, and fundraising events.

Structured Classes

It’s common for students with dyslexia to struggle with focusing. To achieve measurable results, students need routine and an environment that fosters trust and growth.
