Education Guided by Individual Needs
At Horizon Academy, dyslexia is the center of our academic programs. Rather than adapting general education, we build learning around structured literacy, multisensory instruction, and executive function development to support how our students learn best.

Unsure Where to Start?
Understanding Our Whole-School Approach
At Horizon Academy, the needs of our students always come first. Rather than retrofitting general education with supplemental support, Horizon Academy is an individualized learning environment for students with language-based learning disabilities.

Every classroom, subject, and intervention plays a part in our teaching approach. This helps students receive consistent, structured, and research-backed instruction throughout their academic experience.
Our goal is not only to help students improve in reading, writing, and math, but also to help them build confidence, independence, and long-term academic success. By integrating structured literacy, multisensory learning, and executive function development into the school day, we create a cohesive system of support for learners with dyslexia, dysgraphia, and/or dyscalculia.
Comprehensive Academic & Support Services
Horizon Academy offers a full academic program alongside therapeutic and supportive services. Our students participate in a rich curriculum that includes:
- Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)
- Social sciences and history
- Fine arts, including visual art and music
- Physical education and health
- Technology and digital literacy
In addition, students receive integrated support services, such as speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, counseling, and handwriting instruction. Working together, these services support students’ academic understanding through developmental and therapeutic care.
A Unified Approach to Learning Differences
What distinguishes Horizon Academy from other institutions is the intentional alignment of all instructional practices. Rather than treating dyslexia as a separate challenge requiring isolated interventions, our school integrates support into every aspect of learning. This cohesive model ensures students are both accommodated and taught using systems designed based on how they learn best.
We consistently apply structured literacy, multisensory learning, explicit writing instruction, executive function development, and additional dyslexia teaching methods. As a result, Horizon Academy delivers the region’s most comprehensive programs for students with language-based learning disabilities.
Expanding Consistency & Instructional Clarity
A defining feature of Horizon Academy’s instructional model is the emphasis on consistency across grade levels and subjects of study. Students benefit from predictable routines, structured lesson designs, and clearly defined learning expectations.
This consistency reduces unnecessary cognitive load, allowing students to focus more energy on skill development. As students progress through the curriculum, they encounter familiar frameworks that are intentionally repeated and refined, supporting long-term retention and fluency.
Expert Staff
Teachers at Horizon Academy collaborate closely to align instructional language and pacing. This shared approach helps students transfer skills more effectively from one context to another. For example, terminology used in reading instruction receives reinforcement in writing, which extends into content-based subjects, creating continuity that strengthens comprehension and recall.
Professional expertise is another cornerstone of Horizon Academy’s model. In addition to Associates-level certification in the Orton-Gillingham Approach, faculty receive ongoing training in specialized instructional practices.
They also participate in structured coaching cycles designed to refine classroom implementation. This continuous professional development ensures that teaching remains responsive, precise, and grounded in research.
Integrating Technology
Supporting accessibility and engagement is a cornerstone of our organization. We select digital tools as enhancements that allow for individualized pacing, interactive practice, and immediate feedback. When used strategically, these tools reinforce classroom learning without overwhelming students with unnecessary complexity.
Together, these elements contribute to a learning environment where instruction is intentional, cohesive, and highly responsive to student needs, further strengthening the effectiveness of our dyslexia teaching methods.
