Serving Learners With Dyslexia
Horizon Academy serves students with primary diagnoses of dyslexia, dysgraphia, and/or dyscalculia through specialized instruction, small-group learning, and evidence-based teaching designed specifically for language-based learning differences.

When we enroll a student at Horizon Academy, our first step is to learn where they excel. That may be science, athletics, art, or any other area where they thrive. With this information, we recognize their academic strengths and support their superpowers to help them feel more confident.
Who Thrives at Horizon Academy
Students receive individualized attention within collaborative, small groups and should be able to take part in independent study without full-time, one-on-one paraprofessional support.
We can admit students with additional diagnoses alongside dyslexia-related challenges, provided those needs do not require specialized behavioral or emotional support.
Children who feel discouraged, anxious, or behind in traditional classrooms often regain confidence when taught using structured, multisensory strategies that support how they learn best.

How We Support Students
Students receive a structured literacy education rooted in the Orton-Gillingham Approach to build foundational reading, spelling, and decoding skills.
Our math instruction uses hands-on, multisensory techniques that help students better understand mathematical concepts and problem-solving processes.
We teach sentence structure, organization, and written expression to help students communicate ideas with greater clarity and confidence.
Students develop planning, organization, self-monitoring, and time-management skills that support long-term academic independence and success.
Having smaller class sizes helps us focus on individual students’ differences, allowing instruction, pacing, and support to match their needs.
Our Admissions Process
We carefully evaluate whether Horizon Academy is the right educational fit for each student based on their learning profile, academic needs, and ability to thrive within our environment.
The admissions process includes a virtual parent meeting, in-person student screening, parent tour, and review of diagnostic reports by our admissions committee. During the screening, students with learning differences complete brief activities in reading, writing, spelling, and math to help us understand how they learn. Families typically receive next-step communication within 1 to 2 business days after they submit all materials.
