Brilliantly Wired includes special screening of “What is dyslexia”?
Horizon Academy brings powerful new film about dyslexia to Kansas City
Horizon Academy is bringing the short animation, What is dyslexia?, from global charity Made By Dyslexia to Kansas City this Dyslexia Awareness Month. Join us at Brilliantly Wired on October 14 for breakfast, conversations, and a special film screening.
Both Brilliantly Wired and the film What is dyslexia? aim to change the story of dyslexia by highlighting the remarkable strengths of Dyslexic Thinking.
Dyslexic Thinking is recognized as an official skill on LinkedIn and includes creative thinking, communication and interpersonal skills, adaptability and resilience, and complex problem solving.
The screening comes at a time when 9 in 10 children with a learning disability say existing definitions of dyslexia make them scared for their future, despite Dyslexic Thinking skills being among the most sought-after skills in today’s workplace.
The groundbreaking film will be featured at Brilliantly Wired in support of Made By Dyslexia’s campaign to see the film appear across 100 million screens this Dyslexia Awareness month.
About the film

Starring Jeremy Irons, Liv Tyler and Jaalen Best, alongside 13-year-old Hope Day from York, What is dyslexia? follows Lola, a young girl who searches online after learning she has dyslexia.
When the information she finds paints a bleak picture of her future, she meets a dyslexic inventor who takes her on a journey to discover the remarkable strengths and achievements of dyslexic thinkers, including Muhammad Ali and Henry Ford.
The film highlights that dyslexic brains process information differently, resulting in both challenges such as spelling, reading and writing, and strengths including problem solving, imagination and storytelling.
What is dyslexia? tells a balanced, empowering story of dyslexia – one every child deserves to hear.
What is Brilliantly Wired?

Brilliantly Wired is Horizon Academy’s annual event, bringing Kansas City together for a morning of breakfast and a panel discussion featuring impactful leaders with learning differences that think, and lead, differently.
This year’s speakers are:
Allison Bush-Kingsley is a photographer and founder of the Trixi Lou Project, a nonprofit that helps curate lasting legacies through post-diagnosis photography. While her career was built through hands-on learning, mentorship, persistence, and an unwavering commitment to mastering the technical skills of her craft, Allison’s work is rooted in connection, compassion, and the belief that life’s transitions are worth honoring.
Adam Fichman is the owner and founder of Lifted Logic, a full-service digital design, web development, and marketing agency based in the Kansas City metro area. He started out as a tech-obsessed kid who just wanted to see what he could do, and evolved into a web design, web development, SEO, photography, videography, and business consulting expert. Whether you know it or not, Adam changed the way you use the internet.
Tim Meacham is Executive Vice President and President of People Solutions at Lockton, where he leads the vision, strategy, and growth of the firm’s People Solutions business across the United States. With more than 30 years of experience in employee benefits and human resources consulting, Tim has a proven track record of building high-performing teams, delivering client value, and fostering strong relationships with clients, carriers, and industry partners.
These adults are thriving professionally thanks to their unique thinking. We hope you will join us as we welcome these speakers and their unique journeys.
